Captain’s Weekly Fishing Report May 15, 2024
May 16, 2024This week at Sand City Charter, Captain Gaige and his crew have enjoyed an exciting array of catches, and we’re thrilled to report a stellar week of fishing! A special congratulations goes out to Thomas, who reeled in his first-ever striped bass, measuring an impressive 31 inches. Thomas’s catch was made on a silver flutter spoon, a lure that has proven exceptionally effective throughout the week.
Striped bass have been the highlight of our outings, with consistent catches on white 16oz mojos. When we located densely stacked bass, we switched to flutter spoons and light tackle, which provided thrilling action and fantastic results.
In addition to the striped bass excitement, fluke fishing has kicked off promisingly. We’re catching keeper flukes in warmer waters, indicating a strong start to the season. Our area is also seeing a significant presence of 2-4 inch sand eels
this spring, an encouraging sign for the ecosystem and fishing prospects.
Bird activity has been notable as they work on rain bait across the Long Island Sound, where water temperatures are currently ranging from 55-60°F. This natural spectacle not only enhances the scenic fishing experience but also points to
healthy bait fish populations, essential for a productive season.
We’re looking forward to continuing this momentum and sharing more fantastic fishing adventures at Sand City Charter. Join us on the water for your chance to make some memorable catches this season!
