This past weekend marked a significant change in the fishing scene as the humidity finally broke, making for perfect boating weather. We experienced the most boating and fishing traffic of the season so far, with many eager anglers hitting the waters.

After talking with several captains in our area, it’s clear that the Black Sea bass bite has been quite disappointing. Despite this, we’ve had great success targeting other species, including fluke, porgy, and striped bass.

On Friday, we welcomed back our April 15th guests, Jason, Ali, and Cadence, for another exciting bottom fishing adventure. This time, they landed a nice haul of porgies and fluke, making for an enjoyable day on the water.

Saturday’s trip was particularly special as we hosted returning anglers Anton and Anton Jr. They started the day with some magnet fishing at Sand City Island, though luck wasn’t on our side with treasures. We then moved into the bay to teach Anton Jr. the art of snagging bunker. He quickly mastered it, reeling in two bunker, which we used as bait for the next part of our adventure.

A big congratulations to Anton Jr. is in order! He caught his first two striped bass ever, an exciting milestone for any young angler. We then made our way to a busy lump buoy where Anton Jr. enjoyed catching some porgies. In recognition of his previous charter with us, where he set a record for the “Fastest Fish” caught on our charter—landing his first fish ever in just 2 seconds—we awarded him an Ugly Stick Combo.

It’s always a pleasure to see young anglers like Anton Jr. learning and applying proper fishing techniques. All the fish caught were safely released, and we had a fantastic time combining magnet fishing, catching our own bait, and landing multiple species.
