Captain’s Weekly Fishing Report August 7, 2024

Greetings, fellow anglers!

Summer thunderstorms have been rolling through daily, so it’s crucial to check the weather before heading out on the water. This week, we had the pleasure of hosting Lee and his family, who were visiting from their oceanfront home in Massachusetts to see relatives on Long Island. They decided to take the kids fishing, and we experienced non-stop action with fluke and porgy, using live bait for bottom fishing.

At Sand City Charter, we love throwing the cast net and using live bait on all our trips. Currently, the peanut bunker around our dock are even bigger than the snappers, making for some excellent bait.

We were recently boarded by the DEC, and we’re always glad to see them ensuring that local fishermen are following regulations to protect our fishery. Blues and bass are stacked up in our fishing grounds, so if you find the right window to sneak out between these storms, you might be rewarded with a trophy summertime fish!
